Ruth Berman and Connie Kurtz were LGBT rights activists. As a couple, they successfully sued the New York City Board of Education for domestic partner benefits, winning such benefits for all New York City employees in 1994. They travelled widely, offering workshops that focus on skill-building towards a more functional life, including workshops for gay men and lesbians and their families.
