To find a book by specific subject or author, you may find it easier to use the Five College Catalog. Try using Library of Congress subject headings, such as African Americans, when referring to the group in the United States. For a more global category, try Blacks --(country), i.e. Blacks -- Canada. To describe a category of people, use African American as an adjective, i.e. African American Writers, African American Women. You can also try Women, Black, and modify it with a location or a theme, such as Women, Black -- Race identity.
