16th-century manuscripts and documents are somewhat uncommon in Special Collections, but researchers may encounter them nonetheless.

Manual: Libro di M. Giouanbattista Palatino

Published in 1548, Libro di M. Giouanbattista Palatino contains numerous examples of different 16th-century hands. Varying dramatically in legibility and flourishes, Libro di M. Giouanbattista Palatino is a fine companion for the reading and writing of 16th-century hands.

Written by Queen Elizabeth I to Lord North, this letter includes the queen's order for the raising of troops in Cambridgeshire in anticipation of an invasion by the French.
