Sophia Smith Collection (SSC) - The SSC website includes collection lists and descriptions. Note in particular the Collections by Subject:  Africa.  Online guides for the SSC - as well as for other primary source repositories in the Five Colleges - are available in Five College Archives & Manuscripts Collections database, Asteria.

Five College Library Catalog - As you search in the online catalog, watch for the words "personal narratives," "diaries," "interviews," "correspondence," "pamphlets," and "sources" as part of the subject headings; these may point you to published primary sources in the library collections.

You can also search for these words, for example, (missions or missionaries) and africa and (narratives or diaries or interviews or correspondence or pamphlets or sources)

Other clues may be buried in the title, authorship, date of publication, etc.

Center for Research Libraries (CRL) - Early in your research process, consult CRL for relevant primary source material.  CRL staff members will provide tailored lists of CRL resources for researchers, including advanced undergradutes, upon request. More information here.  CRL also offers extended loans of materias via interlibrary loan and electronic delivery.
