Soren Edgren teaches The History of the Book in China at the Rare Book School, held at the University of Virginia. There are also courses for Japan and Korea.

Librarians and scholars transliterate/romanize Chinese differently and in particular the way that they handle word division makes a huge difference to you as a researcher when you want to search the catalog. The details guidelines are here for catalogs, but the quick summary is divide all the syllables except place and people names.

The original guidelines were created under the supervision of Edgren Soren. The 2018 update brings the guidelines in line with RDA for current cataloging.
