Materials on Reserve

During your first year at Smith you may not be doing large amounts of independent research that requires knowing your way around all the library databases. Instead, your professor may be guiding your studies by assigning textbooks and by putting reading materials on "reserve" in the library.

" Course Reserves"

There are two kinds of course reserves:

1. A Book or a DVD/CD. They are listed in the library catalog by your professor's name or course title. Because everyone in your class needs to use the same thing, the lending period is very short and the fines for late returns is quite high. Please be careful to return the materials on time when you use them.

Click on the Reserves tab of the library catalog. Then search by your instructor's name or the course title. You will see a list of materials s/he has put on reserve. Choose the one that you need to read and copy down the call number. Bring this information to the circulation desk and they will check the item out to you.

2. Electronic and accessible through your course moodle site.
