Approximately one-third of the original ten scroll collection depicting scenes from the Tale of Genji still exists. Sections and fragments of the extant scrolls are held by the Tokugawa Art Museum and the Goto Art Museum. By combining their holdings the two museums were able to recreate the eighth volume.
