One of the most tedious aspects of writing is probably the list of works cited/bibliography that you attach to the end of your paper. But, in academic writing it is essential to give attribution to the thoughts and words of the writers you have consulted and have helped to shape your thoughts. Not citing your sources can lead to claims of plagiarism if you use someone else's words without quoting them.
The process of writing and citing becomes more complicated for language learners. You have some extra hoops to hop through so that people who cannot read Chinese are able to locate the materials you used. The general format that we follow in North America looks like this according to the Chicago Manual of Style.
